Friends,
Please take a minute or two to review our MSQC newsletter. We do our best to include news you can use.
Our goal is simple. We work to make Michigan the best place for surgery in the country. We can boast that:
- Costs of surgery within the MSQC are down 13% since 2012.
- Complications following surgery within the MSQC are down 23% since 2012.
- Opioid prescribing following surgery within the MSQC is down 50% this past year, while patient reported satisfaction with pain care has stayed exceptional.
Despite our success, there is so much more work to be done. To take quality improvement to the next level, we must focus our efforts the complex systems of care we all work in. Leveraging our Learning Health System in Michigan, we will hone standard care pathways to drive improvements for patients and providers. We are working hard to develop specific care pathways for colon surgery, hernia, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and hysterectomy. Together, we will identify the most effective care pathways across our state and help hospitals implement these best practices. We got off to a great start at our December meeting thanks to all of the ideas and enthusiasm.
I know I speak for all of the members of the MSQC team when I say thank you for your hard work. We remain deeply committed to our mutual efforts to improve the lives of every patient who has surgery in the state of Michigan.
Mike
