Older adults who ‘train’ for a major operation spend less time in the hospital

Posted on December 6, 2019.

A new study in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons evaluated the MSHOP Prehabilitation program, which included 21 hospitals from the Michigan Surgical Quality Collaborative, concluded that participation in the prehab program was associated with shorter length of stay and lower total episode payments after surgery.

“Every patient scheduled for a major operation — not just those at high risk — should ask their surgeon for a prehabilitation program. “– Michael Englesbe, MD, MSQC Program Director
